【手记112】去看海景
终于不用给我的红苋菜浇水啦。温哥华这两天下雨，都是夜晚下雨，白天没怎么下，晚上睡觉的时候要盖棉被。清晨，我照常去小菜园巡视了一圈，发现红苋菜一下子长大了很多，秋雨同样贵如油。
今年菜种得晚，到现在还没有吃第一茬呢，再长两天就掐幼苗吃吧，再不吃来不及了，下个月开始蔬菜生长缓慢。若是种番茄，下个月光照充足，能收好多番茄。若降温早，番茄都是青的，结了好多果也白搭。
趁着凉爽天气，礼拜六去世界著名学府——UBC 大学兜圈。移民到温哥华几十年了，还没有去参观过UBC大学，总觉得就在温哥华市区，以后大把机会去，结果是二十年后才第一次去。坐公交快线R4直达UBC，首先是去运动场对面的一个农场——UBC Farm，这也是温哥华农场系列的地 点之一，可有点儿失落，环境比较简陋。地面都是石头子儿，连个水泥地都没有，主要售卖有机蔬菜和烘焙产品，以及酒类和手工制品。不过这也正是它的特色所在，这个UBC Farm是唯一真正在农场里摆摊的，在大门口前面就有一个社区菜园，种有各种蔬菜。从农场出来，我又步行去参观其它的教学楼，有生化楼、生命科学楼、经济学楼，还有一个UBC Hospital。可是我找来找去也没找到大学的正门，找不到UBC几个大字儿，这跟我预想的世界排名前列的名校不一样。这间大学没有围墙，座落在宿舍区、住宅区当中，横穿几个街道，有的街道两旁还有食肆、Coffee馆……，巴士穿梭，还有一个各路巴士终点站。在校区漫步，时常能听见普通话的声音，中国人就是爱读书啊。
走出校园，再往前走就是UBC海滩。查了Google地图，附近有好几个海滩入口，离我最近的就是Wreck Beach.但入口处是很深的阶梯，我有畏高症，看着倾斜的楼梯，觉得很害怕，不敢下去。看见一个西人姑娘穿着拖鞋，戴着耳塞，T哒T哒地走下去，很轻松似的；有个戴眼镜的印度小伙也很怪，一个人从楼梯跑下去，过一会儿又跑上来，然后又跑下去……。看见他们这么容易，我也想下去走走，不然白来了。扶着栏杆、半闭着眼睛，终于来到了海滩边。哎，这个海滩只有几平方大小，堆了几根木头，都没有活动的地方。在海边站了几分钟，拍了几张照片就上来了。上楼梯可费劲了，气喘吁吁，幸好中途有石凳休息，一个西人大叔对我说:“如果上阶梯费力，那就每走三分钟，休息三分钟。不要走五分钟，休息五分钟。那样对心脏不好。”他见我们是中国人，还幽默地说:加油，前面就到中国了。其实阶梯很短，十分钟就能走完。
下次换一个大的海滩去吹海风。

Despite its global reputation, UBC blends into the neighborhood without grand gates or walls, providing a welcoming atmosphere with coffee shops and casual spots along the streets. For those interested in photography or simply capturing memories, Wreck Beach offers wonderful photo opportunities with its natural scenery and ocean views. Whether you come for solitude, a scenic walk, or to witness the unique beach culture, Wreck Beach provides an authentic Vancouver experience. Dressing comfortably and bringing water and snacks are recommended, especially since stairways can be physically demanding.
