This is the same gut that made all the wreckless decisions when we were younger???
The same gut that could handle a liter of alcohol but now can’t drink a cup of milk without getting the shits?? Cool cool.
Looking back at my own experiences, I've noticed that our digestive system changes dramatically as we transition from youthful recklessness to adulthood. Back in the day, I could down drinks with my friends and seem almost invincible, but now, even a small glass of milk can upset my stomach. This shift isn’t just about diet—it reflects how our body adapts and sometimes rebel against past habits. It turns out that the gut, which helped us power through wild nights, also undergoes changes such as decreased production of lactase, the enzyme needed to digest lactose in milk. This is why many adults experience lactose intolerance symptoms like bloating and diarrhea after consuming dairy products, something that probably didn’t affect us as teens. Additionally, alcohol metabolism slows as we age, making those long nights harder to recover from than before. Embracing these changes is part of #adulting—the reality that our bodies keep evolving no matter how much we wish some capabilities would stay the same. On the bright side, listening to our gut’s signals helps us make smarter, healthier choices now. I’ve learned to appreciate moderation and substitute dairy with alternatives like almond or oat milk, which my gut tolerates much better. So, while it’s a bit sarcastic and frustrating, this shift in gut behavior is a natural phase. Recognizing and adapting to it not only avoids embarrassing moments but also promotes better well-being as we grow older. If you find yourself laughing and relating to these gut transformations, you’re definitely not alone in this journey of growing up.
