A lesson from adulthood

Adulting is rough no matter what life you have ❤️

All we can do is keep learning and growing through experiences.

I remember when my choices really only affected me and my happiness. But now there are others who I have to think about when making decisions. I’m happy for these people in my life ❤️

But not being independent and being able to do whatever I wanted all the time was a huge mindset shift for me.

... Read moreYou know, when I first started navigating what it truly means to be an adult, I felt a lot like the original post describes – that sudden realization that 'adulthood is REAL.' It's not just about paying bills or living on your own; it's about the profound 'weight that doesn't affect just you anymore' that comes with every decision. This shift is actually a core part of what psychologists call the developmental tasks of early adulthood. One of the biggest tasks often involves establishing true independence. This isn't just about moving out; it’s about financial autonomy, making your own choices about your career path, and developing your own unique identity and values. I remember struggling with the idea of a career, feeling the pressure of choosing something that would not only support me but also potentially impact future opportunities for a partner or family. It's a huge step from only thinking about what *I* wanted. Another key task is forming intimate relationships and building a supportive social network. As you grow, your friendships deepen, and you might start thinking about long-term partnerships or even starting a family. Suddenly, your decisions about where to live, how to spend your time, or even your daily habits start affecting those closest to you. It's a beautiful, yet complex, dance of balancing personal desires with communal well-being. Learning to compromise, communicate, and truly consider another person's perspective becomes paramount. While these tasks can feel daunting, leading to those 'adulting struggles' we all experience, there are also incredible advantages to being an adult that often get overlooked. For me, one of the biggest advantages is the newfound sense of autonomy. Yes, my decisions carry more weight, but they are my decisions. I have the freedom to shape my life, pursue my passions, and build the kind of existence I truly desire. It's a different kind of freedom than childhood, one earned through responsibility. I've also found immense satisfaction in personal growth. Every challenge, every difficult decision, has been a learning experience. You develop resilience, problem-solving skills, and a deeper understanding of yourself and the world. There’s a profound sense of accomplishment in navigating complex situations and coming out stronger. Finally, being an adult means having the ability to contribute meaningfully to the world around you. Whether it's through your work, volunteering, or simply being a supportive friend or family member, you get to make a real impact. The advantages aren't always about what you gain personally, but also about the richness that comes from giving and connecting. It's a journey of continuous learning, and while it's rough at times, the growth and the rewards make it truly worthwhile.

A lesson from adulthood
Adulthood often feels like holding things that shouldn’t fit together; hope and fear, joy and grief, confidence and doubt. Do you think growing up is less about choosing sides and more about learning how to hold all your contradictions with grace? #fypシ #quotes #inspiration #nycviews

How to REALLY prepare For adulthood🌟
Nobody ever really prepares you for adulthood — one day you’re worrying about homework, the next you’re trying to remember if your car insurance is on autopay 😭. For me, “feeling ready” didn’t come from magically having it all together. It came from slowly learning what actually matters: managin

People-pleasing in adulthood 🌸🍋🫶🏼
I don’t think people (therapists included) appreciate how much deeper people-pleasing goes than just simply saying no more often. People pleasing is another nervous system response that is celebrated by others because it benefits them and appears to be something “good” or “nice.” If we want to

A life lesson if you’re 20 something
The life you have now has only started. You’re only a few years out of childhood and are supposed to magically know how to be an adult. No gradual lift off, no baby steps into, just thrown in and expected to be good at it immediately. Becoming an adult in today’s world has set a lot of unspoken exp
