Being a camp counselor is a unique experience filled with unforgettable moments, personal growth, and sometimes a little embarrassment. Last summer, I found myself trying to balance my role as a leader with my own desire to stay out of the spotlight — especially when campers discovered my TikTok! It’s funny how kids can surprise you with their social media skills and enthusiasm. Summer camp isn’t just about activities and outdoor fun; it’s also about building genuine connections with kids and learning to embrace your quirks. While I sometimes feel “cringe” about the little things I share or do, I’ve realized these moments make the experience authentic and memorable. For those preparing for summer 2024 or 2025 camps, remember that being yourself is what truly connects you with campers. From arts and crafts to storytelling, every activity offers a chance to bond and create lasting memories. Don’t be afraid to show your fun side — even if you feel a bit awkward at first. After all, summer camp is all about growth, laughter, and sometimes a little bit of silliness!
