Not my kind of read…

People we meet on vacation by Emily Henry… yes the Movie on Netflix.

Ehhhhhhhh. I have to be in the mood to read romance books or at least it has to keep my attention to read it. That being said, I did not like this one.

🫣 don’t come for me.

Poppy was annoying!

BUT, I saw the movie and it was way better!

Rate this 3/10 for me.

... Read moreAs someone who occasionally delves into romance novels, I find that my enjoyment often hinges on how the story maintains my attention and emotional connection. In the case of Emily Henry's 'People We Meet on Vacation,' I personally struggled to stay engaged, especially with the character of Poppy, who I found a bit grating. This is not uncommon for readers who may not always connect with certain protagonists or writing styles. Interestingly, I decided to watch the Netflix adaptation after reading the book, and it completely changed my perception of the story. The film brought a fresh, dynamic energy to the narrative, likely enhanced by visual storytelling and the chemistry between actors, which books sometimes can't replicate for all readers. This experience highlights how adaptations can complement or even surpass the original literary work for some audiences. If you're someone who enjoys romance but wants a break from conventional tropes, I'd suggest giving the movie a try even if the book doesn't resonate with you. Sometimes, seeing the story portrayed differently can offer new appreciation. Additionally, Emily Henry is also known for other popular works like 'Beach Read,' and exploring her wider bibliography might help find a book that clicks with you better. Ultimately, personal taste plays a huge role in how we connect with stories, whether on the page or screen. I would rate the book a modest 3 out of 10 for my preferences, but the movie adaptation definitely deserves a higher mark. If you’re considering picking up the book or watching the film, keep in mind that each format offers a distinct experience.
