Week 1 of Reverse Dieting 🫐🥝🍳

Reverse dieting is when you slowly increase your calories after being in a calorie deficit. I competed in a bodybuilding show, so I have a very steep caloric deficit for quite a bit of time. Instead of going right back to eating a lot more, you add food in slowly over time so your body can adjust.

The goal is to improve your energy, recovery, gym performance, and overall metabolism while keeping fat gain under control. It also gives your body a chance to recover after a long dieting phase.

Here are a few of my meals from week one!

I’ve been reverse dieting for a few weeks now, I’m excited to share the process!

... Read moreHaving recently completed a bodybuilding competition that required a strict calorie deficit, I can share from experience how crucial the reverse dieting process is for long-term health and performance. Gradually increasing calories—rather than jumping back to previous intake levels—allows your metabolism to adapt, reducing the chance of sudden fat gain. During my first week, I focused on nutrient-dense meals rich in proteins, complex carbs, and healthy fats. For example, I enjoyed dishes like sweet potato with chicken and broccoli, oats with shredded carrots and vanilla Greek yogurt, and post-workout sweet potato bowls with banana and peanut butter. These meals not only supported muscle recovery but also helped stabilize energy levels throughout the day. One tip I found helpful is to monitor how your body responds to each incremental calorie increase. If you notice sluggishness or unwanted fat gain, pause the increase and allow your body more time to adjust. On the other hand, if you feel energized with no fat gain, you can continue adding calories slowly. This mindful approach helped me feel back in control of my nutrition without feeling pressured to rush the process. Additionally, reverse dieting helped me restore my hormonal health and improve gym performance, which dipped during my dieting phase. I also noticed better recovery times and fewer cravings, which are common issues after long calorie restrictions. Ultimately, reverse dieting isn't just about adding calories back—it's about cultivating a sustainable relationship with food and your body’s needs post-competition. Staying patient and consistent with meal planning, incorporating balanced macronutrients, and listening to your body made all the difference during my first week and beyond.

How I stay lean after cutting: reverse dieting
Reverse dieting is a smart way to bring your metabolism back up after a fat loss phase. Instead of jumping straight to high calories, you slowly increase your intake week by week—usually by adding 50 to 150 calories at a time. This gives your body a chance to adapt, helps prevent fat gain, and can

REVERSE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN PREP
Finishing competition prep is a huge achievement, but what happens next is just as important—reverse dieting. After weeks or months of calorie restriction, your metabolism slows down to conserve energy. Jumping straight back to ‘normal’ eating can lead to rapid fat gain and feeling sluggish.
