what i did @ NYFW (S/SS 25)

it’s that time of year again and we are all gearing up for NYFW happening this Feb. while getting everything ready myself (show invites/itinerary, outfits & hotel stuff) I wanted to share my last nyfw endeavors for those who have never been and want some things to check out!!
first and foremost, to be part of nyfw, NETWORKING MATTERS!! network network network as much as you can. when I was on the steps outside of a show (pic 1) I had befriended a writer for PAPER Magazine, who was there to cover the show. you never know who you’ll run elbows with, so ALWAYS network!!! a lot of these shows are on an iykyk basis. cover all your bases and be on top of shows happening that you want to attend.
second of all, pop up shops!!!! pop up shops are H U G E during NYFW and a lot of people don’t take advantage of them but should!! I had seen the invite to the kendra scott pop up, and walked away with a free Swoon drink (so yummy) and FREE earrings from Kendra’s newest collection she was debuting. pop up shops are a great way to spend your time in between shows and events, and are so worth it always. they never miss.
to any girlies looking to attend NYFW, I *cannot* promise you attendance to shows, and quite frankly, no one will give you their REAL info for getting invited. if they tell you they’ll get you in, they’re most likely looking for lots of money. this is going to be my fourth attendance of nyfw, and I had nobody help me get into shows because the fashion world is very much dog eat dog. lots of us used to get invited using GPSRadar, an app specifically for sending out private invites to shows, but it’s been shutdown, so now the only way to get invited (not buy tickets) is by being in the know. you can pay lots of money and still not get this info, which is why I am telling all of you to NETWORK if you truly want to attend and get the most out of NYFW. it does help however if you are an influencer, in press/media, or in the fashion world already. for myself, i’m an influencer (lol ew I hate calling myself that) and a personal stylist who minors in fashion. this helps me attend because I have credentials. if you have the same/something similar, then fashion week 100% is attainable!!!
do not let my post deter you from trying to attend; I am just here to give you the real lowdown on how it goes. it breaks my heart that many creators will promise attendance to followers/the public when it *usually* just isn’t the case.
if you want to go to NYFW, you are going to go to NYFW. if there’s a will, there’s a way.

Also, don't overlook student showcases or initiatives like COLLEGE FASHION events; they're fantastic for scouting new talent and networking in a more relaxed, often more welcoming environment. Last season, I stumbled upon a really cool creative hub called CREATORS LOFT that had open workshops and panels – totally worth seeking out for unique insights and connections! And let's talk logistics and preparation, because NYFW can be intense! First, budgeting is critical. NYC is expensive, so plan for flights, accommodation (hostels or Airbnbs outside Manhattan can save a lot), and daily expenses like food and transportation. Speaking of transportation, those yellow cabs add up! Utilise the subway; it’s efficient and a true NYC experience. Second, comfort is key! Those gorgeous heels might look amazing, but trust me, you’ll thank yourself for packing stylish, yet comfortable, walking shoes. You’ll be on your feet for hours, rushing between venues, and exploring pop-ups like the Kendra Scott one mentioned. To find these hidden gems, start following your favorite brands, PR agencies, and local fashion accounts on social media months in advance – they often drop hints or send out exclusive email invites. Signing up for newsletters from major fashion publications can also give you a head start.
