Hysterectomy recovery must haves

8/23 Edited to

... Read moreHaving gone through a hysterectomy myself, I can attest to how important having the right recovery tools is for both physical comfort and emotional peace of mind. One item I couldn't live without was the heating pad, which helped soothe cramps and muscle tension constantly. The recommended 'hysterectomy pillow' provided an unexpected relief by protecting my abdomen from accidental bumps by kids, pets, or even seatbelts during car rides. Using a cane and grabber made daily tasks easier because bending over was genuinely off-limits in the early days. I also found that wedge pillows, and later a pregnancy pillow, greatly improved my sleep quality by helping me stay propped up comfortably, which is crucial to avoid strain. A belly binder was another lifesaver, offering added support to my abdomen and making movement less painful. Hydration and gentle stool softeners were essential in managing post-surgery constipation—trust me, the magnesium citrate and simethicone recommended helped immensely with gas and bloating, which can otherwise feel unbearable. It's surprising how fast recovery can feel fluctuating—moments of extreme discomfort can give way to feeling almost normal. Remember, recovery is weird and unpredictable, so equipping yourself with these essentials based on personal needs can really empower you during this journey.
