decor rules i learned the hard way🫠

decorating a small space really humbled me lol. i used to buy things just because they were cute without thinking about where they’d actually go when they weren’t styled out. candles were my biggest downfall. i had so many with nowhere to store them and it instantly made my space feel cluttered. now i always think about storage first and decor second. having a place for everything has honestly made my apartment feel better and way more functional!

... Read moreDecorating a small space presents unique challenges but also offers a rewarding opportunity to get creative with storage and styling. One of the hardest lessons many learn, including myself, is that buying decor items just because they look cute can backfire if you don’t have a plan for where to keep them once they’re not displayed. Candles, for instance, can quickly become overwhelming without proper storage, making spaces feel cluttered instead of cozy. A smart small space decorating strategy starts with considering storage options first before adding decor pieces. Multifunctional furniture like ottomans with hidden compartments, floating shelves, and wall hooks can create storage spots while enhancing your room's aesthetic. Incorporating baskets and decorative boxes also helps tuck away items like candles and small accessories neatly. It’s crucial to maintain a 'place for everything' mindset. This not only keeps clutter low but also makes your space more functional and relaxing. Take time to assess what decor truly adds value to your living environment rather than just filling shelves. Minimalism combined with smart storage is often the key to making small apartments feel spacious and inviting. Finally, remember that good lighting and color choices can visually expand your small room, but these should complement, not replace, organization. Embracing these principles creates a beautiful, practical home that reflects your style without sacrificing comfort or order.
