I hate to say I just thought this book was ok. I know everyone said it was so cute, and it was but it was also too high school relationship for me. The chess portion of the book was very interesting to me it was the characters love development that just seemed childish to me.
Now if you like the Netflix show, “The Queen’s Gambit,” then you will like this book. The book dives deep into the process of preparing and studying for matches and how young prodigy’s handle the game. The book also discusses sexism within the chess world and how men don’t want women competing in their competitions and would prefer there to be women’s games and men’s games.
I really liked learning the chess basics, but I just wish there was more to this couple. I felt as though I was begging for more spice that never came. I also hate how the FMC is terrible at communicating and basically blew off her best friend because she thought she was going to forget about her at college.
I don’t know I’m mixed on this book. Has anyone else read this book and got a similar vibe or is it just me?
