Book: in the likely event
Rating: 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was hooked from the beginning when my heart was ripped out 1/4 of the way through the book and then I couldn't put it down. The characters had such depth. I loved seeing both characters develop, grow, and move past their individual and shared traumas. Both were likable yet flawed people.
The past/present timelines, dual POVs, and plot were so engaging that I stayed up way too late finishing this book. I absolutely live for Nathaniel Phelan. I can't explain why but the man is cemented into my soul. I have spent the last year crying on the spot when I think about Nate, his love for Izzy, his selflessness, and their entire story. Time has done nothing to ease the ache in my chest that this man causes.
Izzy is such a phenomenal FMC, too. I got frustrated with the scene in New York (no spoilers!!) because Nate desperately needed her to be the calm, levelheaded one for once and just tell him what the right decision was for his life. This is where the "right person & wrong time" trope gets me- they hadn't spent enough time together to know what to do in a role reversal and the culmination of the scene was so painful.
There is a major plot twist at the end of the book and there were just so many moments this time around that hit so different when you already know how the story ends. I cried more this time over the things I didn't understand during my initial read. But when you know, you know.
I just wish the characters didn’t beat around the bush they were in love but it kept being the wrong timing ughhh.
Book 2: the New Year’s party (short read)
Rating: 4/5: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
ok this was a quick short read that I thought was perfect since it was just new years.
A couple goes to a New Year’s party at a hotel they bought tickets to. In the event random couples are sat at a table to eat with each other. While eating a couple across the table asks everyone’s New Year’s resolution. Some people make jokes like owning a Ferrari while others say traveling. The couple that asked the question says their resolution is to sleep with another couple. All the couples are shocked but this couple are known millionaires and are willing to pay to make their dreams come true if someone will sleep with them. Each couple debates whether it’s worth it and battle themselves on if it will ruin their own marriages. A huge twist comes that kept me so engaged. Definitely a quick worthwhile read.
