the most beautiful thing on my easter table this year 🥚🌸
I made a sourdough bread… shaped like an egg… and painted it to look like a delicate easter egg using only natural colours 😭
this is one of those recipes that feels almost too pretty to eat — but trust me, it’s just as delicious as it looks. soft, fluffy, slightly tangy, and the perfect centrepiece for your holiday table ✨
I used: 💗 beetroot (pink) 💚 spirulina (green) 💛 turmeric (yellow)
mixed with a little cornstarch to create a natural “paint” and decorated it just like a real easter egg 🥹

Baking sourdough bread at home has become one of my favorite kitchen adventures, especially when I can customize it for special occasions like Easter. The idea of shaping the bread into an egg and decorating it with natural paints not only adds a festive touch but also brings an element of creativity to the baking process. Using natural ingredients like beetroot, spirulina, and turmeric powder mixed with cornstarch and water to create edible paints is a wonderful way to avoid artificial additives. These vibrant, natural colors meld beautifully into the crust during baking, giving the finished bread a subtle and pleasing appearance rather than a harsh or overly bright look. Plus, the subtle earthy flavors from these ingredients complement the sourdough’s tanginess. In my experience, the key to perfect sourdough bread is patience during the proofing stages. Allowing the dough to rise fully ensures a soft, airy crumb inside, while the olive oil or butter adds richness and moisture. I've also found that using honey instead of sugar can impart a subtle sweetness that balances well with the natural tang from the starter. This recipe is excellent for starting a charming Easter tradition—imagine guests receiving their own personalized, hand-painted bread to take home! It not only impresses visually but tastes wonderful and pairs perfectly with spring meals. Trying out this bread also opened my eyes to how creative baking can be, transforming simple ingredients into edible art. It’s a delightful way to get family or friends involved in holiday preparations while enjoying the rewards of homemade sourdough with a festive twist.
