orange creamsicle homemade ice cream recipe 🍊🍦

Ingredients:

— 1 pint heavy whipping cream

— 1 14 oz. can condensed milk

— 1 tbs vanilla

— 1-2 cups fresh orange juice

— zest from 1 orange

how-to:

1. Whip up the heavy cream until stiff peaks form, and then gradually fold in the condensed milk and vanilla.

2. For the orange juice, you can either squeeze the juice, or blend and then strain the pulp. You can do anywhere between 1-2 depending on the sweetness of the oranges — I recommend tasting as you go! Finish with the orange zest.

3. If you’d like to freeze in oranges, scoop out the insides with the spoon and use a sharp knife to create a flat bottom.

4. Freeze at least 2 hours.

... Read moreThere's nothing quite like the refreshing taste of homemade orange creamsicle ice cream, especially when the weather warms up! I've always loved that classic combination of tangy orange and sweet, creamy vanilla. Making it at home is easier than you think, and the results are incredibly satisfying. If you're looking to elevate your dessert game or just want a fun project, this recipe is definitely a winner. One common question I get asked is how to achieve that distinct 'orange ice cream with white inside' look, like the classic popsicles. While my go-to recipe blends everything for a consistent flavor, you can easily create a swirled effect! After whipping your heavy cream, condensed milk, and vanilla, you can separate about a third of the mixture. Leave this plain vanilla, then proceed to mix the fresh orange juice and zest into the remaining two-thirds of the cream base. When you're ready to freeze, gently layer spoonfuls of the orange mixture and the plain vanilla mixture into your container, swirling them lightly with a knife before freezing. This gives you beautiful streaks of orange and creamy white, mimicking that beloved creamsicle appeal! For the ultimate creamy texture in your homemade orange ice cream, a few tips can make all the difference. Ensure your heavy cream is very cold before whipping; this helps it achieve stiff peaks much faster and results in a lighter, airier base. When adding your orange juice, taste as you go. Oranges can vary in sweetness and intensity, so adjusting the amount ensures your orange flavor is perfect without becoming too watery or overpowering. If you want an even richer orange flavor without adding more liquid, consider adding a little more orange zest – it packs a punch! Also, don't rush the freezing process. Giving it at least 2 hours, or even better, overnight, allows the ice cream to firm up properly and develop its full, smooth texture. This homemade orange creamsicle ice cream is incredibly versatile. Beyond just serving it in a bowl or a cone, think about fun presentations! You could serve scoops alongside a slice of pound cake, or for a really unique touch, hollow out small oranges and use them as edible serving cups, just like the recipe suggests for freezing. It makes for a super cute and impressive dessert for gatherings. It’s also fantastic blended into a milkshake or even as a float with some sparkling water or ginger ale. Whatever way you choose to enjoy it, I promise this dreamsicle ice cream will bring a smile to your face. Enjoy your delicious, homemade treat!
