First 10K attempt DONE 🏃🏽♀️💜✨
Predicted finish time: 1:45
Actual finish time: 1:43 👏🏽
Not gonna lie… this was HARD 😩
Probably one of the most challenging runs I’ve done mentally and physically.
But I pushed through.
3 miles nonstop, walked mile 4, then ran/walked the final 2 miles.
And honestly? I’m SO proud of myself 🥹💜
A reminder that you do NOT have to be fast to call yourself a runner.
Showing up and trying already makes you amazing.
Peachtree Road Race… I’m coming for you 👀✨ #10K#10KTrainingo#SlowRunnern#RunningJourneym#WomenWhoRunachtreeRoadRace
Attempting your first 10K run can be both exciting and daunting. From my personal experience, one of the biggest hurdles is managing your mental stamina alongside physical endurance. During my run, I focused on breaking the distance into manageable segments: running three miles nonstop, taking a walk break in mile four, then alternating running and walking to finish strong. This approach helped me conserve energy and maintain motivation. One key insight I’ve learned is that pace is very individual. According to my tracking on Strava, I covered 6.23 miles with a pace of about 16:34 minutes per mile, finishing in 1 hour and 43 minutes. While some runners aim for speed, what truly matters is the commitment to show up and keep moving. Running at your own pace can build confidence and gradually improve your endurance. It’s important to listen to your body. On tough runs, incorporating walk breaks isn’t a sign of weakness but a smart strategy to avoid burnout and injury. This mindset shift helps many beginners stay motivated and reduce mental pressure. For anyone training for an event like the Peachtree Road Race, or just starting their running journey, setting realistic goals and celebrating small victories is crucial. Remember, being a runner isn't about how fast you go but about your determination to keep going. Joining running communities, using tracking tools, and sharing experiences can also provide valuable support and encouragement along the way.
