My first couple weeks with my darling, perfect Tilly contained far too many condescending conversations with strangers and even our vet about what a bad idea owning a border collie was.
My eyes could not possibly roll into my head any further every time someone talks about what “bad dogs” border collies are.
If you’re not capable of matching their brilliant, chaotic energy just say that. For those of us who are the human equivalent of these smart, capable, motivated, ready to rumble, socially selective, baddies they are THE perfect match.
Girlie is trying my patience with the grooming tools. But she’s learning so much, so fast and adjusting to every new situation wonderfully with only a little positive reinforcement.
My point is I’m obsessed and if you try to tell me having a (my third by the way) working, herding breed is a bad idea I will laugh in your face. I mean just Lookit her, she’s perfect.

From my own experience with Border Collies, I've learned that consistency truly is key when it comes to training these intelligent and energetic dogs. The OCR content saying "Consistency works" couldn't be more accurate—sticking to a regular routine not only helps with obedience but also builds trust between you and your dog. Tether training, which involves safely tethering your dog for short periods, can be extremely effective even for what some might call "impossible" Border Collies. This method encourages calmness and helps manage their high energy levels when done correctly with positive reinforcement. Grooming your Border Collie can be a test of patience initially, especially given their thick double coats and active nature. However, introducing grooming tools gradually and rewarding calm behavior makes the process smoother for both of you. Remember, Border Collies are quick learners not only in obedience but in adapting to new routines, whether it’s training, grooming, or social interactions. Many people misunderstand Border Collies because of their intense energy and intelligence, labeling them as "bad dogs." In reality, they thrive alongside owners who can match their energy and engage them mentally and physically. If you enjoy activities like agility, herding, or even just long, active days outdoors, this breed can be incredibly fulfilling. It’s important to recognize that Border Collies aren’t for everyone. They need a dedicated owner willing to provide daily exercise, training, and stimulation. But for those of us who are motivated, active, and ready to channel that brilliance, a Border Collie is more than a pet—they’re a partner. In summary, owning a Border Collie comes with challenges but offers immense rewards. Embrace their chaos, stay consistent with training, and celebrate their unique personalities. If you do, you’ll find they are among the most loyal and intelligent companions you could ask for.
