These cats are not only large but also very curious and active, which can make walking them a bit of a challenge if the harness isn’t secure or comfortable. One thing I learned is to always choose a harness specifically designed for cats, as this prevents unnecessary stress and skin irritation. Adjustable straps are a must because Maine Coons have broad shoulders and a thicker neck than typical domestic cats. When I first tried walking my cat without a proper harness, it was a struggle, and he quickly managed to slip out of a generic one. Since switching to a sturdy, well-fitted cat harness, our outdoor adventures have become much safer and more enjoyable. Consulting with a cat vet or pet doctor can provide valuable insights into the best harness types and materials suitable for sensitive cats or those with health considerations. I've found that gradual acclimation—allowing the cat to wear the harness indoors and rewarding them for calm behavior—helps ease anxiety. This process took a few days, but it was worth it to see my Maine Coon confidently explore outside without stress. If you're capturing your pet's adventures on video, these moments not only make great cat videos but also help monitor their behavior and comfort. Always watch for signs of distress like excessive scratching or panting, which might suggest the harness isn’t fitting correctly or your cat is uncomfortable.
