Additionally, carbonated drinks can cause bloating and indigestion, making it uncomfortable to sleep. Moreover, while some items like gasoline, uranium, or airplanes mentioned humorously are not edible, it highlights the importance of distinguishing harmless foods from harmful substances. Eating heavy or spicy foods near bedtime can also cause discomfort and acid reflux. An effective tip I found helpful is to switch to warm herbal teas or simply water in the hours leading up to bedtime. This helps keep you hydrated without the caffeine or sugar spikes. Setting a consistent eating schedule that avoids these problematic foods at least two to three hours before sleeping can contribute significantly to better sleep hygiene. In summary, steering clear of coffee, caffeinated sodas, sugary drinks, and heavy meals before sleep has made a noticeable difference in how rested and refreshed I feel each morning.
