Hey everyone! I absolutely adore how a messy bun can be dressed up or down, and while my tutorial has you covered for adding those cute pull-through pieces and a pretty bow, I know some of you might be looking for ways to incorporate other popular styles like curtain bangs or headbands! Don't worry, I've got some extra tips to help you personalize your perfect messy bun. Making Your Messy Bun Work with Curtain Bangs (or a similar face-frame!) If you're already rocking curtain bangs, integrating them into your messy bun is a breeze! Before you even start gathering your hair for the high ponytail, simply section out your curtain bangs and leave them completely free. You can style them as usual – perhaps a quick curl with a flat iron to give them a soft swoop, or just sweep them gently to the sides – after your bun is completely done. The beauty of a messy bun is that it embraces a relaxed, undone vibe, so those face-framing pieces will blend beautifully. For a bit more hold, a tiny spritz of light hairspray can keep them in place without looking stiff. If you don't have curtain bangs but love that soft, framed look, you can totally adapt the 'pull through pieces' method from my tutorial. Instead of just pulling through small sections near your temples, try leaving a slightly thicker piece on each side of your face from the front hairline. After you've secured your main bun, you can then gently curl these pieces away from your face or just let them fall naturally. A touch of hair wax stick can help give them a little hold and definition, mimicking that effortless curtain bang effect. Sometimes, if a piece is being stubborn, a small bobby pin discreetly tucked behind your ear can work wonders to secure it! Adding a Headband to Your Messy Bun Look Headbands are such a fun way to elevate any hairstyle, especially a messy bun! There are a few fantastic ways to wear them. My favorite is to put the headband on before creating the high ponytail. This ensures it's securely in place and helps keep any shorter front pieces or baby hairs neatly tucked back. You can choose a thin, delicate band for a subtle touch of color or sparkle, or a wider, statement headband for a more dramatic, fashion-forward effect. Think embellished headbands for a glamorous evening look or a simple fabric one for a casual day. If you prefer to add it after your bun is done, just gently slide it into place from the front, making sure not to disturb your perfectly poofed bun. A velvet headband adds a touch of luxury, while a stretchy athletic headband can keep things practical and chic for a workout. You could even use a pretty silk scarf tied as a headband for an extra chic, bohemian touch! Just make sure any elastic bands used for your ponytail are well hidden by your bun or the headband itself. And if you're using a ribbon for a bow in your bun, make sure your headband complements it! Whether you're adding volume to your bun, securing it with an elastic, or tying a beautiful ribbon into a bow, these extra touches can make all the difference. Don't be afraid to experiment with different accessories and techniques to find what makes you feel amazing! Happy styling! 🥰
