I’ve been on a humanitarian trip in Lebanon working with Palestinian and Syrian refugees and displaced Lebanese families. I walked into a shelter for displaced families a few days ago, and as soon as I stepped out of our van they asked where I was from bc I couldn’t understand Arabic.
That’s it, that’s all it took, and for the next 20 minutes the kids surrounded me chanting ‘I love you, Canada.’
They’ve lost their homes. They have not lost their joy. We need to show up for them. Link in bio to stand with them.
During my time in Lebanon, I witnessed firsthand the incredible spirit and resilience of displaced families living in shelters. Despite the immense challenges of losing their homes and enduring uncertain futures, the children’s joy was palpable, radiating hope and warmth even in difficult circumstances. I remember the moment they recognized I wasn’t from their community simply because I didn’t speak Arabic—they immediately surrounded me with chants of affection, saying ‘I love you, Canada.’ This genuine expression of innocence and hope reminded me of the profound human connections we can create across borders. These families have lost so much, yet their kindness and spirit have not wavered. Their ability to show what love looks like in the face of adversity is a powerful lesson for all of us. It’s crucial for those of us who are able to offer support—whether through donations, advocacy, or raising awareness—to stand with these communities. Small acts of kindness can have a significant impact on their recovery and rebuilding process. If you ever consider volunteering or contributing to humanitarian efforts, places like Lebanon provide an eye-opening and deeply human experience. It’s not just about aid but about forming lasting bonds and understanding the broader impacts of conflict and displacement. By sharing resources, love, and compassion, we help foster hope and resilience that the refugee children and their families so deserve. Let’s show them what love looks like when we stand together.
