✨mom hack: help your baby eat veggies!

2025/3/8 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, so you've seen my secret weapon – the baby green juice that gets my little one to chug down her veggies! But let's be real, even with this magic potion, getting kids to love their greens can be a daily adventure. I've been there, staring at a plate of untouched broccoli, wondering if I'm doing something wrong. Over time, I've picked up a few more tricks that have really helped turn mealtime from a battle into a much more peaceful (and nutritious!) experience. One thing I learned is that presentation matters a lot. For example, those ingredients in the green juice like spinach, kale, and carrots don't always look appealing on their own to a toddler. Instead of just plopping them on a plate, I sometimes turn them into fun shapes with cookie cutters or make 'smiley faces' out of sliced cucumber and orange segments. It sounds simple, but it can completely change their willingness to try something new. Another game-changer for me has been 'hiding' vegetables. I know, I know, some people say it's not ideal, but when you're desperate for your child to get essential nutrients, it works! I often blend extra carrots or even some steamed celery into pasta sauces. Finely chopped spinach disappears perfectly into meatballs or casseroles. And don't even get me started on baking – zucchini bread, carrot muffins, or even sweet potato brownies are fantastic ways to get those hidden nutrients in. The sweetness from things like apple or a tiny bit of honey (if they're over one) can really mask the veggie taste. For younger babies, Stevia is an option, but I usually rely on fruit for natural sweetness. I also try to involve my child in the cooking process. Even just letting them wash the cucumber or stir a bowl makes them more invested in what we're eating. If they feel like they’ve contributed, they’re often more likely to taste it. We also have a small garden, and watching the spinach and kale grow makes them curious about trying it. Don't give up if they reject a vegetable the first few times. Experts say it can take 10-15 exposures before a child accepts a new food. I try to offer a variety of vegetables consistently, even if it's just a small portion. Sometimes, offering the same veggie prepared in different ways helps too. My little one might not eat raw broccoli, but she loves it roasted until crispy. And finally, remember that you're doing a great job! It's a journey, not a sprint. Some days will be better than others. The goal is progress, not perfection. Keep offering those healthy options, be a good role model by eating your own veggies, and use creative tricks like our favourite baby green juice. You’ve got this, mama! Every little bit of spinach, kale, or carrot they consume is a win.
