Exfoliating more will reverse wrinkles?

My advice is usually no more than 3x a week, but sometimes (depending on skin conditions) I recommend less than that if an individual cannot tolerate 3x a week.

Exfoliating more than 3x a week is simply not necessary. In the beginning, you may see your skin look amazing, but it can quickly reverse. You’ll start getting little red bumps (irritant contact dermatitis) or your acne starts coming back. It usually leads to people using more actives to try to reverse the irritation/breakouts, which leads to more problems.

The only thing reversing wrinkles is long term retinoids (and even then it’s wishy washy), laser, but the best thing to prevent them is botox and sunscreen.

... Read moreFrom my experience as a dermatology nurse, many people believe that exfoliating frequently can erase wrinkles quickly, but this is a common misconception. While exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells and can brighten your complexion, overdoing it—especially beyond three times a week—often leads to irritation, redness, and even worsened acne. I have encountered patients who started with glowing skin but soon developed irritating red bumps and breakouts after increasing exfoliation, which ultimately required them to use more aggressive treatments to calm the skin. It's important to adjust exfoliation frequency based on individual skin tolerance. Some skin types, especially sensitive or acne-prone, may need even less frequent exfoliation to avoid damage. Instead of aiming for rapid wrinkle reversal through harsh scrubs or acid peels, long-term strategies like consistent use of retinoids provide better results. Retinoids promote skin cell turnover and collagen production but need time and patience for effects to show. Additionally, non-exfoliating treatments such as laser therapy and Botox are proven options for wrinkle reduction and prevention. However, the foundation of anti-aging skincare is diligent sunscreen use daily to protect skin from UV damage, the main cause of premature aging. In summary, treating your skin gently, avoiding excessive exfoliation, and embracing a long-term skincare regimen including retinoids, sun protection, and professional treatments when necessary, will yield healthier, more resilient skin and help manage wrinkles more effectively.
