Should You Tap Or Rub?
SPOILER: it doesn’t matter. Just be gentle and work against gravity by doing upward motions.
For years I was told tapping products in makes them absorb better and rubbing is like moisturizing your hands because they absorb everything… this is exaggerated and false.
Do whatever YOU want, but if you’re doing it because you think you’ll have more moisturized skin, it doesn’t work like that 😅

In my personal skincare routine, I've experimented extensively with both tapping and rubbing in moisturizers to see which offers better absorption and skin hydration. Through trial and error, I've found that the method of application is less critical than the care and gentle approach you use. The key takeaway aligns with what many dermatology experts emphasize: avoid harsh rubbing that can irritate skin, and instead use gentle upward strokes to help products absorb more effectively while also promoting blood circulation. I was surprised to learn that the long-held belief that tapping dramatically increases product absorption is largely a myth. In fact, the gentle motion—whether tapping or light rubbing—is just to spread the product evenly without causing friction or skin damage. An additional tip I've incorporated is layering my moisturizer in small amounts rather than applying a large quantity at once. This allows the skin to absorb each layer properly, resulting in a lasting hydrated glow. Also, applying moisturizer during your morning and nighttime routine while your skin is still slightly damp enhances absorption significantly. Remember, the focus should be on consistency and technique rather than stressing over whether to tap or rub. Ultimately, choose the method that feels best to you and fits your skincare ritual comfortably. Staying hydrated internally by drinking enough water and using products suited to your skin type also plays a vital role in achieving that healthy, glowing skin you desire.
