The best lookout in Lisbon, Portugal (for pics)

This was definitely the best place to get a full view of the city. However, if you want to take cute pictures here of yourself I recommend going early because otherwise it will be flooded with people. My friend and I went at sunrise since we arrived in Lisbon super early anyway. This was the perfect time and there were only a few other people there! I think it’s definitely worth it if you’re looking for that picture perfect shot!

Miradouro de Santa Luzia
2024/8/16 Edited to

... Read moreHey fellow travelers! If you're anything like me, you're always on the hunt for those breathtaking spots that make your travel photos truly pop. And let me tell you, Miradouro de Santa Luzia in Lisbon absolutely blew me away. It's not just a viewpoint; it's an experience, offering what I truly believe is one of the most iconic panoramic views of this beautiful city. From this terrace, you’re treated to an incredible tapestry of Lisbon. I loved gazing out at the sea of red-tiled roofs that spill down the Alfama district, stretching towards the shimmering Tagus River where ships gracefully glide by. You can even pick out some of Lisbon’s historic landmarks, like the prominent dome of the National Pantheon, nestled amongst the white and pastel buildings. The charm extends to the viewpoint itself, with its beautifully tiled walls and the classic pergola dripping with bougainvillea, creating the perfect frame for your shots. My original article mentioned sunrise, and while going early is fantastic for avoiding crowds and getting those serene, unobstructed photos, I also want to share a little more about what else this miradouro offers. Many of you are searching for 'Miradouro de Santa Luzia sunset,' and for good reason! While it does get busier, experiencing a Lisbon sunset from here is pure magic. The sky explodes in a riot of oranges, pinks, and purples, casting a golden glow over the entire city. It’s a different vibe from the peaceful morning – more lively, with a romantic buzz in the air. If you're not a morning person, don't let the thought of crowds deter you from experiencing this unforgettable evening spectacle. Just be prepared to share the view with others, and you might still snag a beautiful spot along the tiled terrace. Beyond the views, Miradouro de Santa Luzia is a lovely place to just soak in the ambiance. There's often a small kiosk where you can grab a coffee or a refreshing drink, and sometimes local musicians add to the enchanting atmosphere with their melodies. The famous blue and white azulejo tiles adorning the walls here aren't just decorative; they depict scenes from Lisbon's history, adding another layer of cultural richness to your visit. Take a moment to admire them – they’re part of what makes this viewpoint so unique. Getting here is part of the adventure! It's conveniently located near SÃŖo Jorge Castle, so you can easily combine the two. I found that walking through the narrow, winding streets of Alfama to reach it was half the fun, giving me a glimpse into authentic Lisbon life. Alternatively, the iconic Tram 28 also passes by, dropping you right near the miradouro, though it can be quite packed. Whether you're after that serene sunrise shot, a vibrant sunset memory, or just a quiet moment to admire Lisbon's beauty, Miradouro de Santa Luzia truly delivers. It's not just about the panoramic city and rooftop views; it's about the entire experience – the historic tiles, the charming pergola, and the undeniable feeling of being in one of Europe's most captivating cities. So, charge your camera, plan your visit, and prepare to be amazed!
