I still use heat, I rest often, and I limit my activity, because those things help me the most, in addition to my pain pump. ❤️‍🩹

The thing to remember is that everyone is different. Just because these treatments didn’t help me that doesn’t mean they won’t help me. It’s just important to remember that there are many options out there.

I also looked into decompression surgery, but the surgeon did not make me feel confident that the surgery would help. He said the pain would most likely return in a few years. So, to avoid a surgery that could have potentially make things worse, I opted to get a cervical Intrathecal pain pump instead.

... Read moreLiving with Occipital Neuralgia can be a challenging and often frustrating experience, as I’ve learned through my own journey with the condition. Many treatments such as occipital nerve blocks, steroid injections, and various medications may help some people but not necessarily everyone. In my case, despite trying physical therapy, Baclofen, and even Botox—which unfortunately worsened my symptoms—I found relief through the cervical Intrathecal pain pump after exhausting numerous other options. One important lesson I’ve gathered is that managing chronic nerve pain involves trial and error and close communication with your healthcare providers. Although my surgeon advised against decompression surgery due to the high chance of pain recurrence, it’s crucial for others to seek multiple opinions and assess risks carefully. I also continue to use heat therapy and take ample rest, which help ease my symptoms alongside my pain pump. For those walking a similar path, I recommend tracking each treatment’s effects carefully and discussing all alternatives, including less invasive options like pain pumps or targeted nerve blocks. Joining support groups or forums can provide invaluable firsthand advice and emotional support, making the journey feel less isolating. Remember, pain management is deeply personal—what works for one might not work for another—but persistence and informed choices are key to improving quality of life.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with each of these. I refuse Botox on the principle that it's a poison at the root of it, plus it hasn't been around long enough to see results of usage. More long term clinical trials need to conducted. That's me. Everybody has to do what's they need to do. My Neurologist pushed for it since nothing else is working for my Chronic Migraines. I forgot about Occipital Neuralgia and just read about it again. This started in my teens. I am having a battle with ON currently. I'm in too much pain to sleep much and all my muscles have disappeared. Did that happen with you? I'm asking a 30-something(?) when I'm almost 65! I have had lots of muscles from training/running and now sagging skin. This is not what I planned for me. I hope that I can find a way to turn this around. I was thinking about you earlier today and hoping all was stable medically. Sending warm hugs and love to you.
