You do not need to have a college degree. If you just want to do medical coding, you do not need to have a degree. What you need to have though is a medical coding certification.
You need to have a certification from either AAPC or AHIMA. These are the only two organizations that employers accept certifications from. If you're looking at programs, and the certification is not from aapc or ahima, please do a job search to see what employers are looking for. There are programs out there that offer certifications, that are basically pointless.
