「音が鳴る積み木ってどんな感じ？」と思って探していたんですが、我が家でいちばんヒットしたのは“音”よりも「数字の仕掛け」に驚く木の積み木でした。1〜10のすうじブロックがそれぞれ数字の形で、しかも高さ＝数字の値になっているのがポイント。パッと見て「大きい＝多い」が伝わるので、勉強っぽさがなくても自然に算数に触れられました。 特に分かりやすかったのが足し算。例えば「2」と「3」を縦に積むと…本当に「5」と同じ高さになります。言葉で説明しなくても、目で見て直感的に「2と3を合わせると5になる」が理解できるのがすごいところ。うちは4歳が、最初は“積み木遊び”の感覚で積んでいるだけだったのに、気づいたら「じゃあ1と4も同じだね！」と自分で組み合わせを探すようになりました。 引き算も同じ要領で、「7の高さから2を取ると5になるね」と“高さの差”で見せられます。紙の計算が苦手でも、ブロックの高さがその数字の値と同じだから納得しやすい印象でした。 さらに掛け算の導入にも使えます。例えば「2」を3つ並べて（または積み上げて）「6」と高さが合うのを見せると、「同じ数を繰り返すと増える」がイメージできました。いきなり九九ではなく、遊びの延長で触れるのが我が家には合っていました。 遊ぶコツは、最初から問題にしないこと。「この1〜10の数字、どれが高い？」「同じ高さを作ってみよう！」みたいにゲームにすると盛り上がります。木の積み木なので手触りもよく、音が鳴る積み木のような派手さはなくても、気づいたら“算数に強くなる”土台づくりができている感じ。知育玩具を探している人には一度試してほしいアイテムです。
