Favorite Body care that works for me & my lupus

2024/9/5 Edited to

... Read moreNavigating life with lupus means constantly being mindful of my body, and that definitely extends to my skin. It's not just about finding products; it's about creating a holistic self-care routine that truly supports my sensitive skin and overall well-being. So often, I hear others with lupus asking, 'What really works?' and I've learned a lot through trial and error that I'd love to share. First off, sun protection for lupus patients is non-negotiable. Our skin is often more reactive to UV rays, which can trigger flares or worsen existing symptoms. That's why I always make sure to use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, even on cloudy days. Beyond sunscreen, I embrace protective clothing – think wide-brimmed hats, long-sleeved shirts, and even UV-protective wraps when I know I'll be outdoors for extended periods. It's a small habit that makes a huge difference in managing my lupus symptoms and protecting my skin from damage. When it comes to my daily skincare routine for lupus, gentleness is the golden rule. I've found that simple, fragrance-free products are my best friends. For cleansing, I often reach for a super mild daily facial cleanser, sometimes even a gentle baby wash, because they clean effectively without stripping my skin's natural barrier. My face and body often react to harsh chemicals, so opting for formulas designed for sensitive skin is key. After cleansing, hydration is crucial. A good baby lotion or a rich, fragrance-free body lotion helps lock in moisture and soothe any dryness or irritation. My hair care products also follow this rule—I look for sulfate-free shampoos that won't irritate my scalp or dry out my hair, which can sometimes become brittle with lupus. Beyond just topical products, overall lupus wellness plays a huge role in how my skin feels. I've learned that managing lupus isn't just about medications; it's about lifestyle. This includes trying to manage stress, getting enough restorative sleep, and maintaining a balanced diet. I've explored various lupus supplements with my doctor, focusing on those that support inflammatory response and overall immune health. While these don't directly heal my skin, they contribute to my systemic health, and that often reflects positively on my skin. Sometimes, despite all my best efforts, discomfort still arises. Having a soothing routine, perhaps incorporating a gentle pain relief product or simply taking a warm (not hot!) bath with calming essential oils, can make a world of difference. It's about listening to my body, understanding its signals, and providing it with the care it needs. This journey with lupus has taught me to be patient and kind to myself, always seeking out what truly works for ME.

Could it be lupus? What to know BEFORE you see a doctor
You’ve been tired for way too long. Your joints hurt. You feel off. You’ve gone to the doctor… and left with no real answers. Here’s the thing: Lupus can be sneaky. It mimics other conditions and hides behind vague symptoms. And many people (especially women) go years without a diagnosis.
