If you’ve been told all your problems are because of MTHFR , COMT variants , HLDR or “bad genes”…. That’s definitely not the full picture.

I used to believe that my chronic health issues were entirely due to my genetic makeup, especially after learning I had the MTHFR variant. It felt like a sentence I couldn’t escape. However, what truly shifted my perspective was understanding how powerful the mind-body connection is in healing. There was a fascinating Stanford study where participants were told whether they had a so-called 'bad gene' linked to exercise endurance. Those who believed they had the gene performed worse, fatigued faster, and showed real physiological changes—purely based on belief. Meanwhile, the others did better, highlighting how much our expectations can shape our body's responses. This showed me that while genetics can influence vulnerability, they don’t seal your fate. Your nervous system, your environment, and especially your beliefs play a massive role in your overall health. Epigenetics and modern neuroscience reveal that our bodies are in constant, dynamic communication, adapting far beyond what we previously thought possible. If you've been told your genes define your chronic illness or anxiety, remember that you have more power than that label suggests. Cultivating a strong belief in your body's ability to heal, supported by mindfulness, positive environment, and nervous system care, can make a huge difference. Personally, integrating practices that send a 'safety signal' to my brain—like meditation, gentle movement, and hypnosis—helped rebuild my resilience. It’s not about ignoring genetics but not letting them overshadow your capacity for recovery. You can live a healthy life despite gene variants, and the first step is believing in that possibility.
