Sometimes anxiety doesn’t start with a thought.

Sometimes your body sounds the alarm first.

Your heart starts racing. Your chest tightens. You feel shaky, nauseous, dizzy, restless, weirdly “off”…

…and THEN your brain goes, “Oh fuck, what’s happening?” 😅

That doesn’t mean the sensation is random or that something is wrong with you.

Your nervous system can learn patterns of protection so well that it starts running them automatically, before your conscious mind has even caught up.

And then the physical sensation becomes the trigger for the fearful thought, which creates more physical sensation, which creates more fear… and suddenly you’re stuck in the world’s shittiest feedback loop.

Part of healing is learning to interrupt that loop.

Not by forcing the sensations away, but by changing what happens AFTER they show up.

“Oh, I know this feeling.”

“My body is having an alarm response.”

“I don’t have to add a scary story to it.”

“I can let this move through.”

Your body can learn fear.

And it can learn safety too. 🧠✨

... Read moreAnxiety can be a perplexing experience, especially when the physical symptoms appear before any anxious thoughts. From personal experience, I’ve found that recognizing these bodily sensations as a form of your nervous system's alarm can be incredibly empowering. Often, the heart racing, dizziness, or sudden nausea aren’t random but are signs that your nervous system has learned to react with heightened sensitivity — almost like a smoke detector that's too eager to go off. One technique that transformed my approach to anxiety was pausing and consciously acknowledging the physical sensations instead of immediately spiraling into worry. Saying to myself, "My system is feeling sensitized," and then grounding myself by focusing on the details around me — the colors in the room, textures, sounds — helped send a reassuring signal to my brain that I was safe in the present moment. This simple yet effective practice interrupts the usual feedback loop where the body’s alarm triggers fearful thoughts, which then heighten physical sensations. Over time, consistently retraining your nervous system response like this can reduce the frequency and intensity of these symptoms. It’s not about suppressing feelings but changing your relationship with them. Understanding that your body can learn both fear and safety is a vital step toward anxiety recovery. By becoming curious rather than fearful about these sensations, you empower yourself to move through anxiety rather than be overwhelmed by it. This approach worked for me and can be a valuable tool for anyone struggling with anxiety-related physical symptoms.
