... Read moreTraveling through Kyushu offers an unforgettable experience filled with diverse landscapes and cultural gems. On day 8, the journey to Kagoshima invites you to savor authentic Yoshimiya ramen before taking a scenic ferry ride to Sakurajima, an active volcano renowned for its stunning coastal views and lava trails like the Hakamagoshi-Karasujima route. Walking these trails provides not only exercise but an intimate encounter with the region’s volcanic geography. The Yunohira Observation Deck is a must-visit, offering panoramic vistas of the volcanic activity nearby. On day 9, Kagoshima’s heritage continues with a visit to Sengan-en, a magnificent garden and former residence of the Shimadzu clan. Besides the beautifully manicured gardens, the site features the charming Neko Shrine, dedicated to cats that historically kept time for the clan’s lord. Sampling local matcha and wagashi at the garden’s café adds a delicious cultural touch. Moving into the Aso region from day 10, the Aso Boy! train ride from Kumamoto station to Aso station presents spectacular views of an active volcanic caldera. Kusasenrigahama’s grassy plains, formed by ancient volcanic ash, are ideal for leisurely hikes or picnics. The Kusasenri Coffee Roastery nearby offers a warm respite with locally brewed coffee. The Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine is worth exploring for those interested in spiritual sites surrounded by lush cypress forests. Day 11’s highlight includes a breathtaking hot air balloon ride over Fureaimizube Park, providing an unmatched aerial perspective of Kyushu’s unique terrain. This is complemented by the dramatic Takachiho Gorge and the Daikanbō Lookout, where cooled volcanic lava formations tell a geological story. The Amaterasu Railway with its open-topped carts adds a fun and scenic transport option across the Takachiho area. The itinerary continues into Oita for days 12 and 13, featuring the Komatsu Jigoku where visitors can boil eggs in natural hot springs, experiencing the geothermal activity firsthand. Nearby, the scenic Kokonoe Yume Otsuribashi suspension bridge offers spectacular valley views. Yufuin, with its quaint Floral Village and peaceful Kinrin Lake, offers charming cafés such as Cafe Tenjosajiki and unique shopping on Yunotsubo Street to complete your cultural immersion. On day 14, take the "Yufuin no mori" train to Hakata. This scenic railway trip showcases the region's beauty before arriving at the bustling urban hub of Fukuoka. Hakata provides a rich blend of modern shopping, culinary delights like Japanese curry at Curry Mart, and cultural experiences including tea and matcha shops. The vibrant Tenjin district and Canal City Hakata entertainment complex offer endless exploration opportunities. Finally, day 15 immerses you in the vibrant city atmosphere with visits to Nintendo Fukuoka, various shopping centers like Hakata Marui and AMU Plaza, and traditional spots offering authentic udon and matcha experiences. Events like the Pop & Surprise Snoopy Festival add a playful city vibe to conclude your Kyushu adventure. This itinerary combines natural beauty, cultural heritage, culinary delights, and modern attractions, providing a well-rounded experience that reveals the rich diversity of Kyushu Japan.
