8D7N Kyushu Itinerary (+ costs!) ⭐️🇯🇵

I personally thought it was a little hard to find content about Kyushu before we travelled, so I wanted to drop this 🫣 hope it’ll be helpful to anyone who is planning!

My personal verdict is that Kyushu is really nice with an abundance of nature & yummy food, but I personally prefer Tokyo / Kyoto because I find that it’s easier to clock in more attractions in a day 😹Kyushu has many attractions, but they’re usually silo-ed in different cities or need quite some driving sooooo

... Read moreIf you're planning an 8-day Kyushu adventure, one helpful tip is to organize your travel by region because many attractions are spread apart, requiring some driving or longer train rides. The JR Kyushu North Pass is a great value for covering major stops efficiently and saving on transportation costs—buy it in advance if possible. I also recommend using the Kyushu app for updated train schedules and sightseeing info. For food lovers, local specialties like Yufuin Mabushi, Akaushi beef, and Hakata ramen are must-tries. Don't hesitate to explore smaller shops and bakeries; they often have hidden gems like the cheese manju or Telato soft serve. For budget meals, convenience stores and mid-range eateries offer decent options, but splurging on occasional kaiseki dinners at ryokans really enriches the experience. Also, some day trips like to Mt. Aso and Takachiho Gorge provide wonderful nature escapes if you like hiking. Consider booking some tours via Klook for hassle-free visits, such as the Yamaguchi day trip covering scenic spots like Akiyoshido Cave and Tsunoshima Bridge. Lastly, packing light and using coin lockers at train stations makes travel easier when hopping between cities. Overall, combining rail passes, a rental car for certain days, and strategic lodging choices—especially ryokans for an authentic stay—was my favorite way to experience Kyushu comprehensively yet comfortably.
