Growing up with natural hair has been both a challenge and a celebration for me. Like many, I used to struggle with societal expectations to keep my hair straight, often feeling pressured to use perm or relaxers. But embracing my natural texture—just like the Bangyangs—has been liberating. I recall being 13 years old in middle school, constantly battling with my hair to fit in. The process involved daily brushing and combing, often dealing with flakes and dead skin on the scalp. It took patience and self-love to realize that my hair's natural state was beautiful just as it is. Over the years, I’ve learned to care for my hair by focusing on hydration, gentle detangling, and avoiding harsh chemicals. At 23 and 24 years old, just like Jordan and Kobe in the Bangyangs, I fully embraced a perm and relaxer-free lifestyle. This choice not only improved my hair's health but also strengthened my identity and confidence as a grown woman. Using natural oils, protective hairstyles, and regular scalp care has brought vibrancy back to my curls and coils. What stood out most in my journey was the importance of community—finding others who support and celebrate natural hair. Sharing experiences like "I’m better off being single than getting hurt" resonates deeply, reminding me how self-respect and self-care come first. If you're on a similar path, remember it’s not just about how your hair looks but how it makes you feel inside. The Bangyangs' story is a testament to the power of authenticity, patience, and loving your hair at every stage of life.
