Mom Guilt Level: ER Visit 😩
Hey everyone, I need some advice because mom guilt is hitting HARD.
Today, my 14-month-old ended up in the ER because I accidentally nicked her thumb while cutting her nails. The cut bled heavily for about 15 minutes and I couldn’t get it to stop. Thankfully it’s been dry for over 4 hours now.
She has a bandaid on it, but I’m panicking about bedtime. She’s a thumb sucker, and I know bandaids can be a choking hazard. Should I leave it on overnight? Take it off? Will sucking her thumb make it bleed again? I feel like bleeding is better than choking, but I also don’t want to make the wrong call.
Update: We ended up taking the bandaid off, and as soon as she tried to suck her thumb, she started crying—it clearly hurt. She normally self-soothes to sleep with her thumb, so bedtime has been rough without it.
Has anyone gone through something similar? Any tips for keeping your baby safe while letting them comfort themselves? I could really use some advice (and solidarity).
