Emotions and how to deal ❤️‍🩹

2024/8/3 Edited to

... Read moreIt's completely normal to feel emotions, but sometimes, they can pile up, especially something as intense as anger. I know firsthand how challenging it can be when you feel that 'built up anger' simmering beneath the surface, clouding your judgment and making you feel restless. It’s like a pressure cooker, and if not managed, it can explode in ways we regret or turn inward, leading to other issues. From my experience, one of the first steps in dealing with built-up anger is to understand its roots. The graphic on 'ANGRY' wisely reminds us that anger often shows what we want to protect. What is it for you? Is it a boundary that's been crossed, a sense of injustice, or perhaps feeling unheard? Sometimes, anger isn't the primary emotion; it's a secondary response to feeling 'REJECTED,' 'ANXIOUS,' or even 'GUILTY.' For instance, I've found that when I feel rejected, my initial sadness can quickly turn into frustration or anger towards the situation or even myself. Beyond just pausing and taking deep breaths—which are incredibly important first steps, as the 'ANGRY' graphic suggests—I've discovered a few more strategies that help me. When I feel that tension building, I try to find a healthy physical outlet. This could be a brisk walk, a quick workout, or even just clenching and unclenching my fists to release some of that pent-up energy. The key is to 'respond rather than react,' and sometimes, a little physical release can create the space needed to think clearly. Journaling has also been a game-changer for me. When I'm feeling 'OVERWHELMED' and angry, writing down my thoughts can help untangle the knot of emotions. I try to identify what specifically triggered the anger, how it made me feel, and what I wish I had done differently. This practice helps me process not just anger, but also underlying feelings of anxiety or guilt. It's about getting it all out of my head and onto paper, which often provides a fresh perspective and helps me see patterns. Another crucial aspect is learning to communicate constructively. Instead of letting anger fester, which only builds it up more, I’ve tried to express my feelings calmly and assertively. This means using "I" statements, like "I feel angry when..." rather than accusatory "you" statements. It's not about blaming, but about expressing your needs and boundaries. Remember, even if you feel rejected, expressing your feelings calmly helps you maintain your self-worth. Finally, practicing self-compassion is vital. It's okay to feel angry. It's a human emotion. The goal isn't to eliminate anger but to manage it in a way that serves you and those around you. If you're feeling 'ANXIOUS' about expressing your anger, start small. If you're feeling 'GUILTY' about past outbursts, acknowledge it and focus on what you can do differently moving forward. These strategies are all about giving yourself the tools to navigate the tough waves of emotion, especially that powerful tide of built-up anger, so you can move towards a calmer, more centred self.
