Anxiety at Work: Why Survival Mode Isn’t Normal

Anxiety at work never felt like simple stress. It felt like constant survival mode. The games, the backstabbing, the pressure to perform while knowing someone was already plotting against me. That kind of fear lived in my body. Sleepless nights. Racing thoughts. Claustrophobia on planes and elevators.

What helped me manage it wasn’t “𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳.” It was learning to take back control in small ways:

🙏 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟒-𝟕-𝟖 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 method to regulate my nervous system when I thought I would break.

✍️ 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫 so I could separate what was real from what was manipulation.

🐾 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐢𝐦𝐢 to ground my body and remind myself I wasn’t trapped.

I couldn’t control the tyrants or their games. What I could control was my response, and that is what carried me until I was finally free.

✨ 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧: How do you manage anxiety in a toxic workplace or around toxic people?
