Jesus Feeds the 5,000
If y'all are ready for a small read on what I studied tonight in the Bible then please feel free to read this. It's not what I expected to read tonight, but it's something that I needed. So below were my notes and what I took from it. I hope it can bless someone else 🥰
In Mark 6:30–43, we read about Jesus feeding the 5,000. The apostles had gathered with Jesus, intending to rest, and crossed the lake together. But when they arrived, crowds were already waiting for Him. When Jesus saw them, Scripture says, “He had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd” (Mark 6:34).
Jesus taught them all day. It’s almost as if no one even noticed their hunger because they were so captivated by His words. As evening approached, the disciples urged Jesus to send the people away so they could find food. Instead, Jesus asked, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” They came back and said, “Five loaves and two fish” (Mark 6:38).
Five loaves and two fish didn’t seem nearly enough to feed thousands but Jesus worked a miracle. “They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish. The number of the men who had eaten was five thousand” (Mark 6:42–44).
These people needed Jesus. They came from different backgrounds and walks of life, yet they were united by one urgent need to be where Jesus was. Like sheep, they needed a Shepherd for guidance, wisdom, direction, safety, and protection. They needed teaching, and they knew they needed to hear what He had to say.
Jesus shows us here that human needs aren’t only spiritual or emotional...they’re also tangible and physical. When He fed them, it was as if He was reminding them that with God, everyone eats until they are full, and there is always more than enough left over.
The God of Jesus is a God who meets human need with divine abundance. 🥹🫶🏻
