MORE PROJECTS I MADE IN COLLEGE 🎬

thank you so much for all the love on my last post about my short films and the love they’ve been getting on youtube because of you lovely people!! i wanted to share the context behind the rest of the videos on my youtube channel in case any of you decided to go check them out!!

i added my youtube channel link to my bio on here so if you want to watch any of these, check that out!

videos and what they’re about + some BTS!

🎬 i guess 🎬

genre: coming of age

filmed in: october 2021

class i made it for: intro to production

what it’s about: basically, i hated college for my first two years there. we were still coming out of covid, i had no friends, and i was in a miserable long-distance relationship. i missed my family and my friends back home and this is the film i made about that.

BTS: my professor did indeed ask me if i needed help after i turned this in 😭 in fact, 4/5 of my college film professors asked if i was okay after turning in a project, and at the time i was Not. but we’re chilling now 🙂‍↕️

🎬 life on film 🎬

genre: coming of age

filmed in: february 2023

class i made it for: none!

what it’s about: it’s so strange to watch yourself grow up. to become someone that those former selves wouldn’t recognize.

BTS: idk man i got sentimental and existential after recovering a bunch of old home videos and made this. may or may not have cried over what could’ve been…

🎬 a rainy night in stevens point 🎬

genre: experimental documentary

filmed in: september 2021

class i made it for: intro to production

what it’s about: aimlessly wandering the streets of a town you don’t belong in, you stumble across strangers and strange houses and unlit alleyways that beckon you.

BTS: my roommate and i filed a restraining order against my stalker and then went for a walk to relax after the whole ordeal. this is the result: a video i made for a weekly “journal” series we had to make for my intro to production class.

🎬 out here, everything is peaceful 🎬

genre: experimental documentary

filmed in: september 2021

class i made it for: intro to production

what it’s about: sometimes you gotta run from all your problems and hide in the woods. this was one of those times.

BTS: also made as a video journal for my intro to production class, i filmed this over the course of monthly daily walks through the nature preserve on my college campus. the deer were my friends :)

🎬 light & sound & houses & mr. worldwide 🎬

genre: experimental

filmed in: october 2021

class i made it for: intro to production

what it’s about: random houses and the sounds i associated with them.

BTS: in which i filmed all the houses in town that i thought looked cool and added audio that i thought fit their ✨vibes✨ in post-production. for some reason my professor really liked this one??? i don’t get it though 😭

... Read moreIn this article, I dive deeper into the stories and inspirations behind my college film projects that reflect my personal experiences and growth as a filmmaker. My first short film, 'I Guess,' captures the turmoil of my early college years post-COVID, where loneliness and relationship struggles played a significant role in my creative expression. In 'Life on Film,' I reflect on the nostalgic transformation of my identity over time, showcasing my evolution through the lens of old home videos. The experimental documentary 'A Rainy Night in Stevens Point' reveals a profound exploration of solitude and the unfamiliar, produced during a particularly difficult moment in my life. In my second experimental piece, 'Out Here, Everything is Peaceful,' I depict my escape from reality into nature and the solace it provided. Lastly, 'Light & Sound & Houses & Mr. Worldwide' takes a quirky approach, intertwining my perception of homes with their audial characteristics. Each project serves as a testament to my evolving skills and the challenges I faced, offering viewers not just cinematic experiences, but reflections of personal narratives that resonate on a universal level.

If I could go back and redo my student life… first of all, I’d like to have a serious chat with past me. Like, girl—why did we think five shots of espresso, zero sleep, and a “just wing it” mindset was a solid academic strategy? Honestly, I’d do a lot differently. For starters, I would actually
