🍁 Simple DIY to Help Families Practice Gratitude
Every Sunday, our family does one thing, we unplug. No phones, no screens… just connection. 💛
Back in January, I wanted to help my kids focus on gratitude in a way they could see and feel, not just talk about.
So we started a new tradition: Gratitude Jars.
We made a whole day of it. We went to Dollarama, the kids picked out stickers, ribbons, and markers to decorate their jars, and I found some beautiful glass jars in the housewares section. I also grabbed brown gift tags to use as our “gratitude cards.”
Once home, we spread everything out on the table and decorated our jars together, each one turned out totally unique (and perfectly us).
Every Sunday since, we’ve sat together and written at least one thing we’re grateful for. But honestly? It’s never just one. Sometimes it’s something big, like a family trip or good news. Other times, it’s small things that make life sweet, a cozy morning, a laugh, a new favorite song.
These jars now sit in our living room, reminding us of all the reasons we have to be thankful. And when December comes, we’ll open them up and read through every single card, a year full of gratitude, one note at a time. 🌿
If you’ve been looking for a family activity or tradition to start this Thanksgiving weekend, this is a simple one that means so much.
Gratitude changes the energy in your home — and the way you see your world. ✨

Starting a gratitude jar is a wonderful way to engage your family in practicing thankfulness daily. To make it even more special, involve your children in decorating the jars using stickers, ribbons, and markers, turning it into a creative project that reflects your family's personality. Each week, encourage everyone to write down not only big moments like trips or achievements but also the little joys — a favorite song, a cozy morning, or a good laugh. These small notes accumulate into a beautiful collection of memories and positive affirmations. To deepen the experience, consider pairing this activity with short gratitude meditations suited for kids, which help them focus on positive emotions. You might also create a gratitude chart to visually track everyone’s contributions and share thankfulness during family meals. By reading the notes together at the end of the year, you relive heartfelt moments that strengthen your family bonds. Not only is this practice uplifting, but it also instills a lifelong habit of appreciating the good in life. Many families find that gratitude changes the energy in the home, fostering kindness and resilience. With just a few materials and intentional time, you’re creating an impactful ritual that supports emotional well-being for everyone involved.
