🧾 Tinea versicolor
1️⃣ What is it? ❓
• Chronic fungal dermatitis in Malassezia spp. group (e.g. M. furfur, M. globosa)
• Normally a normal flora on the skin, but when proliferating abnormally → causing abnormal skin spots rash
• Appearance: White, brown or reddish alkali, fine flaky, usually not itchy
2️⃣ caused by what? 🔎
• 🦠 Transformation of Malassezia from yeast form → fiber (mycelial form)
• 🌡️ hot, humid air + a lot of sweat → stimulate the growth of infection.
• ⚖️ Infection causes abnormal melanocyte function → white spotted skin or provokes inflammation → darker skin
3️⃣ Risk factors 🧩
• 🌞 Hot and humid weather (e.g., Thailand)
• 😓 Easy sweating / frequent exercise
• 🧴 oily skin or using oily creams / lotions
• 🩺 Immunodeficiency such as diabetes, long-term steroid use
. 👨👩👧👦 common in adolescents-young adulthood.
