How to Get Your RN in 1 Year

✨Check out Nursing Bridge Programs ✨

Just Google ABSN programs for non-nurses

Requirements:

1) Have a Bachelor’s Degree in ANY Field

Your degree doesn’t have to be science related. I was an English Education major before I decided that I wanted to switch to healthcare.

2) Take your Prerequisites

Most bridge programs require about 6 prerequisites, most of which you can take online. Pick a few programs you may be interested in and see their requirements. They usually are the same across programs (apart from lab components).

3) Get a Letter of Recommendation

Many Bridge programs have you apply through Nursing CAS, which requires you submit one-two letters of recommendation, so think about some non family members that could vouch for you!

Most programs are 12-16 months. I chose a 12 month program, because I wanted to start working as soon as possible. That being said, programs cover the same material, so pick the right paced program for you.

Hope this helped! Drop any questions in the comments 🫶🏻 #collegediary #nursingschool #ABSN #nurseadvice #acceleratednursingprogram

2025/2/16 Edited to

... Read moreAccelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) programs are designed for individuals with a non-nursing bachelor’s degree who wish to transition into nursing. These programs typically cover essential nursing coursework at an intense pace, allowing you to become a registered nurse (RN) in a remarkably short period, often within 12-16 months. Upon enrollment, students can expect to engage in both theoretical learning and practical clinical experiences. To gain admission into an ABSN program, candidates usually need to fulfill certain prerequisites, such as courses in anatomy, physiology, and microbiology, most of which can be completed online. It's essential to research various programs to find one that aligns with your educational and career goals. Each program may have different requirements and prerequisites based on its curriculum. Besides academic prerequisites, submitting a strong application is crucial; this often includes letters of recommendation. Often, colleges use a centralized service like Nursing CAS for processing these applications, emphasizing the importance of a solid endorsement from your previous instructors or employers, excluding family members. As you navigate this journey, it's helpful to connect with current nursing students or nurses who have recently completed their programs for insights and tips. Engaging in specialized forums, like those on Lemon8, can help answer questions and ease the transition into this challenging yet rewarding field. Remember, commitment and passion are vital as you approach your goal of becoming a registered nurse in just one year.
