PSA for my post-op babes ✨:
We do NOT massage every day.
Why? Because your poor skin needs a break!
If we poke, press, and move that tissue daily, we’re just traumatizing it over and over — and that slows things down.
Healing actually happens between sessions.
So we space your appointments every 3–4 days, twice a week, or every other day if your doctor says so.
We’re here to heal you, not irritate you. 😉💗
Post-operative care plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth recovery after surgery, especially when it involves delicate skin and tissue. While massages are often recommended to help reduce swelling and improve circulation, it’s important to understand that overdoing it can actually delay healing. When you massage post-surgical areas, the underlying tissues are still fragile and need time to regenerate. Massaging every day can cause repeated trauma to the skin and soft tissues, leading to increased inflammation and slower recovery times. Healing primarily occurs during rest periods when the body gets a chance to repair damaged cells and strengthen new tissue. Therefore, most healthcare professionals recommend spacing out massage sessions, typically every 3 to 4 days, or twice a week. In some cases, if a doctor advises more frequent sessions, they usually will not exceed every other day to prevent irritation. In addition to following the recommended massage frequency, it’s crucial to listen to your body’s signals. If you notice increased redness, tenderness, or swelling after a session, it may indicate that the area needs more time to heal. Remember, the goal of post-op massage is to facilitate recovery, not to cause discomfort or setbacks. Taking breaks between massages allows your skin and tissue to recuperate, supports optimal blood flow, and reduces the chance of scarring. Post-operative massage therapists are trained to customize treatment plans based on your specific surgery and healing progress, ensuring you receive care that helps rather than hinders your recovery. Always coordinate with your surgeon or healthcare provider before starting any massage routine post-surgery. They can provide guidance tailored to your procedure and individual health needs. By respecting these healing intervals, your skin remains healthier, and your overall recovery experience improves significantly.
