7.23.26: Just Kimiko’s Thoughts 💭…
One thing I’ve learned as an adult is to stop measuring friendship by how often someone calls, texts, or shows up.
Life looks different when you’re grown.
Some people are juggling careers, businesses, children, aging parents, health issues, grief, healing, or simply trying to make it through the day without falling apart. And sometimes… they’re just mentally exhausted.
Please stop trying to guilt your adult friends because they didn’t answer the phone, didn’t text back right away, or haven’t come to see you.
“I saw you on social media, but you couldn’t answer my call?”
Respectfully… those are two completely different things.
Scrolling social media for a few minutes doesn’t require the same emotional energy as having a conversation. Sometimes people have enough energy to laugh at a funny video, but not enough to explain everything they’re carrying.
I know because I’m one of those people.
There are plenty of days when I simply do not want to talk. It has absolutely nothing to do with how much I love or value the people in my life. Sometimes I just need silence. Sometimes I need to recharge. Sometimes I need to process life before I have anything left to give someone else.
I’ll text you back when I can.
I’ll call you when I’m up to it.
And if you’re my friend, trust that my silence isn’t always rejection.
Real friendships leave room for grace.
Not every unanswered call is personal.
Not every delayed text is disrespect.
Sometimes it’s just an adult… trying to survive life the best they can.
Give people the space you hope they’ll give you when it’s your turn to need it. 🤍
