Guess how many times I was offered this trip?

What the Helly? For a 300 mile round trip. NOPE!!

2/16 Edited to

... Read moreRecently, I was offered a ridiculously long Uber trip—300 miles round trip! At first glance, it seemed like an adventure, but when I thought about the costs and time involved, I knew it was a no-go. For example, the UberX fare I checked was about $96.85 for just 8.3 miles, with an estimated 12 minutes of travel time. Now imagine extending that to over 140 miles one-way, which could easily lead to rides lasting over 2 hours each direction. Taking such a long trip isn't just about the fare; it’s also about the commitment. As a driver or rider, spending 4+ hours in the car affects your schedule and energy levels. Drivers may hesitate due to concerns about fuel costs, wear and tear on their vehicles, and time away from other potentially more profitable rides. Passengers might also reconsider, factoring in the expense and the possibility of surge pricing. From a personal perspective, I had to weigh the value of the money against the inconvenience and time lost. In addition, rideshare apps sometimes flag long trips as “long trips (45+ min),” which can influence driver availability and pricing. In my case, I felt that the 300-mile round trip offer was not practical—too long and costly for me to accept. Overall, when considering accepting or requesting long-distance rideshare trips, it’s important to calculate the financial, time, and energy investment involved. Sometimes saying "no" is the best choice to maintain a healthy balance between earnings or costs and personal well-being.
