Things High Functioning Women Don’t Talk About
What high-functioning women don’t talk about.
There was a version of me that had to survive.
To keep going no matter what.
To carry everything, even when it was heavy.
And then there’s who I am now..
Still high-functioning. 🙃
Still showing up.
But with awareness, boundaries, and intention.
Living as a high-functioning woman often means excelling in various areas of life while managing inner challenges that aren’t commonly discussed. From personal experience and conversations with friends in similar roles, one of the most profound realizations is the constant pressure to survive and keep going regardless of emotional or physical exhaustion. Many high-functioning women carry invisible weights—expectations from others, the need to appear strong, and sometimes an internalized belief that vulnerability equals weakness. This often leads to carrying burdens in silence, which can impact mental health without others realizing it. What I've learned through my own journey is the importance of shifting from mere survival to mindful living. Adopting awareness means recognizing when to set boundaries that protect your energy and foster healthier relationships, both personally and professionally. It involves saying no without guilt and prioritizing self-care without feeling selfish. Intentionality in daily choices—be it in work, relationships, or self-expression—creates a powerful sense of agency and resilience. It also opens the door to healing, allowing us to grow beyond past versions of ourselves who simply had to push through. Forums like #HealingJourney and discussions around #SelfAwareness are vital spaces where high-functioning women safely share their experiences, reminding each other that it’s okay not to be perfect and that strength often lies in embracing vulnerability. In summary, the unspoken realities of high-functioning women involve a delicate balance between external achievements and internal wellbeing, with awareness, boundaries, and intention serving as key tools for a fulfilling and sustainable life.
