You don’t need better time management

4/23 Edited to

... Read moreIn today’s fast-paced world, it’s common to hear advice about optimizing every minute through better time management. However, many of us overlook a crucial aspect: how we rest. Unlike the traditional view that rest simply means taking breaks to recharge before pushing harder, real rest involves a deeper, more mindful practice that helps prevent burnout. From my personal experience, shifting the mindset from 'managing time' to 'honoring rest' has been transformative. For years, I thought maximizing productivity meant squeezing every possible task into the day. But this led to exhaustion rather than sustained success. It wasn’t until I realized that what I actually needed was to unlearn my conditioned beliefs about rest — that rest is active, healing, and essential, not just passive downtime. The phrase from the image, “You don’t rest. You crash,” resonates deeply. Instead of strategic rest, I used to push through until I hit a wall, leading to physical and emotional crashes. Learning about trauma recovery and self-love helped me see rest as a form of self-respect and healing. When we allow ourselves genuine restorative time—not as a luxury but as a necessity—we foster growth from within. Incorporating self-growth practices means listening to your body’s signals and letting go of the guilt around slowing down. It means redefining productivity by integrating periods of rest and reflection. Whether it’s through mindfulness, gentle movement, or simply unplugging from technology, these moments enable us to return to our tasks with renewed energy and clarity. Ultimately, reclaiming rest helps build resilience, improves mental health, and supports holistic well-being. So next time you find yourself rushing to manage your time better, pause and consider if what you really need is not more hours, but more meaningful rest.
