SHABANG 💥 “my doctor says I shouldn’t lift heavy weights with scoliosis” ⬇️

🤦‍♀️ I am a huge advocator for not allowing your scoliosis to limit and define what movement you CAN and CAN’T do, ESPECIALLY if you love weightlifting like me. I am not saying that you should ignore medical advice, because there are things that can hurt your curve, but our bodies our SO adaptable.

This is your sign to “play” within your limit, instead of avoiding exercise and movement altogether ✨

... Read moreLiving with scoliosis can feel restrictive, especially when you're passionate about fitness and weightlifting. I've been there—being told by doctors not to lift heavy weights felt like a dead-end. However, I realized that the key is not to avoid movement but to adapt and listen to your body carefully. One important aspect is to focus on proper form and start with lighter weights to build strength gradually. Using supportive gear like braces or taping can help provide stability during workouts. Also, incorporating mobility and flexibility exercises warms up the spine and surrounding muscles, reducing the risk of injury. I found that paying attention to how my body responds after each session allowed me to adjust my routines—some days I would go heavier, others lighter or focus on core strengthening exercises that support the spine. Connecting with other scoliosis warriors online gave me motivation and practical tips, reminding me I'm not alone. Remember, your body is adaptable. The goal is to enhance strength safely and not to compare yourself with others. If you experience any pain or discomfort beyond normal workout soreness, it's crucial to consult your healthcare provider. Ultimately, the journey is about reclaiming your power and redefining what you CAN do with scoliosis—whether lifting weights or simply enjoying movement every day.
