Our office rule. Baked goods is goodbye.
Yesterday, I felt like baking, so I made a chocolate cake for my coworkers. I just wanted to share something sweet since I had the time and figured the office crew would like it. This morning, I hauled it in and plopped it on the breakroom table with a quick email: “Cake in the kitchen, help yourselves!”
By lunch, almost everyone had stopped by to say thanks but they kept dropping lines like: “We’re gonna miss you so much!” and “Where are you off to next?” Turns out, there’s this unwritten rule at work, if someone brings baked goods out of nowhere, it’s basically a “I’m quitting” signal. I had no clue that was a thing!
Now my manager wants to schedule a chat about my future here, and I’m panicking because I actually love this job, and I’m not leaving. What do I say to my boss?
