How to ACTUALLY grow your nails 💅
I see a lot of posts about how to grow your nails (nail oil, builder gel, etc) but none have mentioned the most important part:
You need to figure out WHY you can’t grow your nails.
Is it simply that they are weak and break too easy?
Most other posts about nail care address this problem.
OR is it because you have a nervous habit of biting or picking at your nails?
I have had a habit of picking at my nails for as long as I can remember. I would do it without noticing and by the time I did, it was far too late to save the nail. I just always kept them short like the first picture. I realized at some point that it was a nervous habit. Something I’d do when I felt uncomfortable and had nothing to do with my hand. 3 things helped me stop the habit:
1. Realize the exact cause of the habit.
2. Fidget toys. The more I played with something that didn’t have negative connotations in my head (picking at my nails=no nails) the more I noticed myself picking at my nails.
3. Anxiety medication. If you have a nervous habit that is self destructive, you should talk to your psychiatrist about it.
I could not have grown my nails without these things. Nail care doesn’t mean much if I’m just going to rip them off or pick at the gel.
This is not a cure all. The point of this post is to illustrate that nail wellness is part psychology as well.
