Three things I got from the breakup.

Break ups suck, they hurt, you may feel like the world is against you in some ways... just know if you're going through a break up that I'm hurting too, you're not alone. Almost four years later, and I have taken nearly all of my space back, but these are the marks that remain. I tell myself that the future is there, and I will continue to grow. So I say to you, you will too, love you!

1. A skewed sense of self. Lost and alone for most of our relationship, it was strange to think breaking up was actually losing him.

2. Two kids. And goddammit if they weren't the best part of us.

3. His chihuahua... This my dog now.

... Read moreBreakups can be a painful and transformative experience, shedding light on aspects of ourselves that we may not have recognized before. In this journey of healing, embracing vulnerability plays a crucial role. It allows us to confront our emotions openly and to explore our new identity without relying on a partner's affirmation. The first lesson I learned was about developing a skewed sense of self. During the relationship, I often found myself lost in my partner's identity, leading to confusion after the breakup. This period of self-reflection taught me the importance of establishing my individual identity—a crucial step for growth. Secondly, I learned that while the relationship ended, the love for our children remained the most precious part of it. They are a source of joy and connection, reminding us that love can transcend adult conflicts. Lastly, I was surprised to find comfort in a furry friend—the chihuahua that we adopted together now brings me companionship and unconditional love in this new chapter of my life. Pets can have a therapeutic effect, providing us with emotional support as we navigate through life's ups and downs. Ultimately, breakups can serve as powerful catalysts for personal growth, encouraging us to embrace vulnerability and acknowledge that we're never truly alone in our struggles.

Moving on isn’t about waking up one day and feeling nothing. It’s about waking up and choosing yourself, even when the ache is still there. It’s the small decisions — deleting their number, saying no to the “what if” thoughts, filling the quiet moments with things that make you feel alive again
