Clocked out of my last shift as a bedside nurse. 🥹🩺
Four years on this unit starting at the bedside, growing into a charge nurse, and slowly becoming someone I barely recognize from day one in the best possible way. A journey that shaped not just my skills, but my confidence, my resilience, and the people I now get to call some of my closest friends. 🤍
This unit has been such a huge part of my life and the provider I’ll get to be. I’m forever thankful for every patient, every lesson, every laugh, every crazy shift, and especially the people who became family along the way.
No matter what kind of shift we had, with this team, somehow every day was a good one. I always knew this day would come, but saying I’m going to miss y’all is an understatement. The best part is knowing this isn’t really goodbye. I’ll still get to round on patients on the same unit and pop in to see my people. 🥰
6.5 years of bedside nursing officially complete.
Onto the next chapter. 🥼🌙

... Read moreLeaving bedside nursing is a significant milestone, and as someone who has spent years caring directly for patients, I understand the emotional weight of this transition. Each shift brings unpredictable challenges — from managing sudden emergencies to providing emotional support to patients and their families — building not just clinical skills but deep empathy and resilience.
Working closely with a great team makes all the difference. When a unit truly feels like family, every long, exhausting shift is filled with moments of connection and laughter that sustain you. These relationships often become a lasting source of joy and professional support, even as roles evolve.
My own journey from novice nurse to a charge nurse was deeply transformative. It taught me how to prioritize patient-centered care while juggling administrative responsibilities. The lessons learned on the floor shaped my confidence and decision-making, allowing me to advocate more effectively for patients and staff alike.
Celebrating this transition also means embracing new opportunities ahead. Whether continuing patient rounds or pursuing advanced roles, the foundation built at the bedside is invaluable. It shapes how I view healthcare, prioritizing compassion alongside clinical excellence.
If you're contemplating leaving bedside nursing or advancing your career, remember that your experience is a testament to your dedication and growth. Cherish the memories, learn from every challenge, and be excited about the next phase — because nursing is a journey, not just a job.
